Important Information For 2020

Posted by Llandudno Swimming Club at Jan 6, 2020 12:32PM PST

Dear Swimmers and Parents

As many of you will be aware 2019 has seen a number of changes as the Llandudno swimming club committee and coaching team work to improve the offer for our swimmers.

A significant development this year has been the changes introduced to our squad structures to provide a better progression route for all of our swimmers that suits their stage of swimming development.

The new structure is set out below.

  • Progression 1 swimmers – Please note that from January 2020, Llandudno swimming centre are no longer able to offer us use of the training pool on a Monday from 6.30 – 7.30pm. This affects Progression 1 squad only. The swimming centre have been able to offer Fridays 6.30-7.30pm instead so although there is a change to the days available, your swimmer will still be able to access the same amount of pool time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Squad Day/Time Session Length Total swimming time per week
Progression 1** Training Pool (Change to days from January) Weds, Fri 6.30pm – 7.30pm 2 × 1 hr 2 hrs
Progression 2 – Training Pool Mon, Weds, Fri 7.30pm – 8.30pm 3 × 1 hr 3 hrs
Progression 3 – Main Pool Lanes 1 & 2 Mon, Weds, Fri 6.30pm – 8.00pm 3 × 1.5 hrs 4.5 hrs
Progression 4 – Main Pool, Lanes 3 & 4 Mon, Weds, Fri 6.30pm – 8.30pm 3 × 2 hrs 6hrs
Progression 3 – Main Pool, Lane 5 Mon, Weds, Fri 6.30pm – 8.30pm 3 × 2 hrs 6 hrs

We have also reviewed and developed our sets to ensure that swimmers at all stages continue to develop and achieve their potential but also are varied enough to challenge them and keep them interested.

The new sets are designed to fill the session for each squad with a mix of aerobic and skills work and it is essential that swimmers complete the whole set to get the benefit. It is important that swimmers are ready on poolside at least 10 minutes before the start of the session. While not intended, swimmers leaving early can also disrupt the focus for the rest of the squad.

On this basis we do now need to ask that all swimmers arrive on time and participate in the whole session for their squad.

We ask that if swimmers are not able to stay for the whole session that they don’t attend on that day.

Unfortunately, we do have limited pool time and therefore if swimmers aren’t able to commit to their squad please could you let the head coach know so that another swimmer is able to make use of their place.

We thank you for your understanding and also for your continued support to both the club and your swimmer.

Many thanks
